Me: Hi there! I’m Angela, it’s so nice to meet you!
Kathy (Who I’m Meeting For The First Time): Hello, I’m Kathy – it’s nice to meet you too. What do you do for a living?
Me: I’m a horse hair jewelry artist. I create personalized horse hair jewelry.
Kathy: I’m sorry… you do what?
This is how meeting new non-horse people usually goes. They give me the side-eye, scrunch up their face because they are trying really hard to understand…but they just don’t get it.
But anyone who’s owned/loved horses totally gets it.
When I worked for an equine surgical center, way back when, the toughest part of my job as an office manager, was helping horse owners go through the process of letting go, and saying goodbye. It’s an excruciating thing to go through – for you, for your friends, for all of us. My clients would ask if I knew of anyone who made horse hair jewelry, and at the time there were not a lot of people around doing that type of craft. The few I did find did not create pieces that would be wearable daily, but more of a memento keepsake.
Well that wouldn’t do. I knew I would want something I could have with me every day. Grief sneaks up on you, when you least expect it.
Why couldn’t I have something that provides immediate comfort?
So, yeah, I make personalized horse hair jewelry because I know what it feels like to miss or even just think about missing your best four-legged friend. I mean they are more than just our horses – they are our confidants, our therapists, and sometimes our closest relationships. This goes for our dogs, cats and even some very special chickens too!
I also know how hard it is to watch your friends go through the same thing. So Spirithorse Designs Horse Hair Jewelry & Art was born way back in 2006, to help you move through your grief more easily by creating durable, life long wearable memories that will remind you of all the happy memories when you need it most.
Spirithorse is more than just my job – it’s my Purpose in life.
And I absolutely love what I do. Enough to share it with everyone I meet, whether they get it or not. Okay, it’s always fun to introduce non-horse people to what I do…once I explain, then they get it too, and then they ask if I work with dog hair. Why yes, yes I do 🙂
It’s nice to meet ya!
And I would love to get to know you better… What is your favorite horse, dog or cat’s name? (Or any other pet!) Leave a comment below!

This is a group gift for a horse lover. Her name is Kimmy. Thank God for horse baby is a live and well. As with many of us out horses are a partner in life. Well, Kimmy is a dear friend of ours and we just wanted to do something extra special for her. A piece of her baby to enjoy now and hold dear to her heart later. I placed the order! I am so excited to see the bracelet!! To be honest so excited that I now plan to get one for myself!
